The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has condemned alleged intimidation of its candidates for the 2027 general election in some states, saying it is unacceptable.
National Chairman Abdulraham Mohammed said the party is confident that its candidates for the various positions the opposition party is contesting in the 2027 general election will emerge victorious.
Mohammed, who spoke at a meeting with state chairmen of the party at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja, expressed optimism that the outcome of the 2027 polls would herald success for the country. He expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party at the state chapters for their roles in ensuring that the PDP had a successful exercise to nominate candidates for next year’s election.
“I want to use this opportunity to also appreciate the state chairmen across the federation for the successful nomination of our candidates for the state assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship across the 36 states. I want to thank you for making sure that we have a smooth process across the 36 states to enable us to come out with these successful candidates, which is our prayer that, in sha Allah, come 2027, our candidates will make it in all positions that they are vying for,” he stated.
The chairman of the forum of state chairmen, Austin Nwachukwu, speaking at the meeting, informed the PDP leadership that candidates nominated by the opposition party were being harassed and intimidated in some states.
Nwachukwu noted that “We have painstakingly produced very good candidates for the forthcoming elections and this is not going well with the governors of some states”, adding that the party had petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, as well as other security agencies over the development.
