The Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has urged politicians and supporters to shun thuggery, violence, and hate speech ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists at Dominion Radio and Television in Ibadan, he warned that political violence scares voters away from exercising their civic rights. He noted that no political party could win an election solely through the support of its members, stressing the need for wider electorate backing.
His appeal came amid rising tensions following an alleged clash involving Accord (A) members and suspected hoodlums at Molete, Ibadan, which left one person dead and others injured, alongside a previous attack on an APC convoy.
Adegoke urged candidates to run peaceful and issue-based campaigns, free of inflammatory statements.

“Anytime I go out for campaign, I don’t go out with thugs. I don’t like violence, I don’t support violence. I always preach peace,” he stated.
Identifying youth unemployment as a root cause of thuggery, Adegoke pledged to prioritise job creation and youth empowerment, if elected. He argued that gainfully engaged youth are less vulnerable to political manipulation.
He appealed to fellow contestants to protect Oyo State from becoming a haven for hoodlums and to allow residents to participate safely in politics.
Adegoke maintained that voters should assess candidates based on competence, policies, and proposed solutions rather than political confrontations.
He also spoke extensively on his nine-point development agenda, tagged: SOLUTIONS, and urged all stakeholders to prioritise the safety of residents and safeguard the democratic process.
