More than 1000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have declared support for Okpurughre Ogheneovo’s aspiration to represent Ethiope West Constituency 2 in the Delta State House of Assembly.
The declaration was made at a rally, convened to drum support for his candidacy.
Speaking for the crowd, women and youth leaders said Ogheneovo is the best for the ticket. They cited her track record, grassroots connection and ability to mobilize votes as key reasons for their endorsement. The declaration was unanimous, with supporters vowing to stand with her through the party primaries.
In her address, she thanked the people for turning out despite the short notice. She said she has the capacity to represent the constituency effectively and bring development to the people.
“Beside being the only woman in the race, I know I’m very qualified and I tick all the right boxes,” she told the crowd. “I have the capacity, I have the grassroots support and I understand the needs of our people.”
She pledged loyalty to the party regardless of the primaries outcome, but expressed confidence that her candidacy would strengthen the party’s chances. “No matter the outcome, I and my teeming supporters won’t leave the party. But I’m certain I’d boost the party’s chances at the polls,” she said.
Addressing the crowd, a party chieftain and stakeholder, Idi Presley, adescribed her aspiration timely, saying she is a round peg in a round hole for the constituency seat.
According to Presley, the party would be making a strategic move by giving her the flag. “Should the party give her the flag, she’d win the election before 12 noon,” he declared, drawing loud cheers from supporters.
