Chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has said the outcome of the 2027 presidential election remains known only to God and President Bola Tinubu, as he expressed confidence in the opposition party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Galadima spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday while discussing the prospects of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
“Only God and Tinubu knows what will happen in this election,” Galadima said, alleging that there had been coordinated attacks on the opposition.
Despite the political uncertainties surrounding the 2027 contest, the NDC chieftain said Obi and Kwankwaso would emerge victorious if the election is conducted freely, fairly and credibly.
“Peter Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair, and credible unless there is someone with a machinery willing to take it away from them,” he said.
Galadima also dismissed suggestions that divisions within the NDC could weaken the opposition ticket, insisting that its leading figures remained united and were working closely together.
“They are on the same page, they are close to each other, every minute, every hour, everyday and every hour of the calendar,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the ticket’s prospects in the North, particularly against the backdrop of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s opposition activities, Galadima said the NDC was presenting a ticket comprising experienced politicians capable of appealing to Nigerians across the country.
“We are running a single ticket of prominent, experienced Nigerians; this is our game,” he said.
He described the Obi-Kwankwaso combination as a “healing ticket”, arguing that both politicians complemented each other and offered a ticket capable of bridging political and regional interests.
“Obi and Kwankwaso complement each other in every move. We are running a single ticket; that is why we call this ticket a healing ticket,” Galadima said.
The NDC chieftain also questioned promises by politicians to restore fuel subsidy, urging Nigerians to examine the backgrounds and previous positions of those making such pledges before accepting them.
“If someone tells you I will restore subsidy, will you just believe him without looking at his background?” Galadima asked.
He further criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as continued subsidy-related expenditure, challenging the government to explain the meaning of what it refers to as “Energy Security Expenses”.
“Obi and Kwakwanso are populist politicians who are for the people; Tinubu put us in this trouble. Do you know that, as at now even the president pays subsidies called Energy security expenses, you should call him to explain what it means….all these are fraud,” he said.
