2027: Obenwa declares for Isuikwuato Assembly seat, secures Diaspora royal endorsement

Hon. Lilian Chinasa Obenwa has formally declared her intention to contest the Isuikwuato State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declaration, held at her country home in Ekebe, Eluama, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, drew a large and influential gathering of party faithful under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Attendees included members of the LGA executive committee, ward executives from across the ten wards, and a strong contingent from her political base in Isuamawo Ward 4—reflecting growing grassroots momentum.

Addressing supporters, Obenwa formally notified party leaders of her ambition and presented her Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, signalling readiness for the contest ahead. She also unveiled her campaign theme, “Isuikwuato Our Responsibility,” framing it as both a call to collective action and a blueprint for accountable, people-focused representation.

She outlined a vision centred on inclusive governance, effective legislative advocacy, and sustainable development across the constituency. According to her, leadership must remain rooted in service, accessibility, and a sincere commitment to improving lives.

In their response, the LGA APC Chairman, Hon. Uche Okorie, alongside ward leaders, expressed confidence in her aspiration. They pledged support should she secure the party’s ticket, noting that her candidacy presents a potential milestone for the constituency in advancing female representation in the state legislature.

Discussions at the event also highlighted the broader issue of women’s participation in politics. Party executives commended Obenwa’s resolve, describing her bid as both timely and symbolic in a landscape still marked by gender imbalance.

In a practical demonstration of grassroots engagement, Obenwa responded to a request from the APC Women’s Wing for a unified attire to enhance their visibility during party functions. She donated wrappers to members, a gesture warmly received by attendees.

The gathering concluded with prayers for unity, guidance, and success as the political season gradually takes shape.

Beyond the local stage, her declaration has drawn endorsement from the diaspora. HRM Eze Chukwudi Ihenetu, Onyendu Ndigbo in Ghana, offered royal blessings, describing Obenwa as a principled and capable leader poised to deliver responsive governance through genuine community service.

With her entry into the race, the contours of the 2027 contest in Isuikwuato are beginning to take form—where questions of representation, inclusion, and grassroots credibility may define the path to the polls.
