Senate President Godswill Akpabio has predicted victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying Nigerians will ultimately reward the administration based on its performance.
Akpabio made the remarks on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during a meeting with members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse.
The Senate President said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would enter the 2027 campaign with what he described as a strong record of achievements to present to voters.
He argued that Tinubu inherited a challenging economic situation but had taken measures that improved the financial circumstances of state governments.
Akpabio specifically claimed that 27 states were unable to meet their salary and pension obligations when Tinubu assumed office, but said the situation had improved under the current administration.
“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking out of the box,” Akpabio said.
He expressed confidence that the administration’s record would strengthen Tinubu’s campaign for another four-year term.
“In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office. We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr president at the campaign grounds,” he said.
Akpabio also criticised opposition figures seeking to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election, saying they had not offered Nigerians a sufficiently compelling alternative to the APC government.

He maintained that the ruling party would use its record in government to make its case to the electorate when the campaign gets underway.
Turning to the 10th National Assembly, the Senate President defended its performance, saying the legislature had recorded significant accomplishments and would continue to cooperate with the executive where necessary to advance government programmes.
He also urged senators who may lose their seats or choose not to return after the 2027 elections to continue supporting the APC and the Tinubu administration.
Akpabio dismissed criticism on social media, telling lawmakers not to be distracted by online commentary.
“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out,” he said.
The Senate committee members were in Uyo during the annual legislative recess as part of their official activities.
Dandutse, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, said the visit was aimed at fulfilling the committee’s constitutional responsibilities and paying a courtesy visit to the Senate President.
Akpabio’s declaration comes as political parties intensify preparations and begin shaping their strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
