The Deputy Director-General of Media and Communications of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign, Dele Momodu, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu knows that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is well suited to lead Nigeria.
Momodu made the assertion on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he defended Atiku’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ADC chieftain described Atiku as the most deliberate and focused presidential aspirant since he first contested for the position in 1993.
“When I say he (Atiku) is the best, it is a statement of fact and even President Bola Tinubu himself knows that,” Momodu said.
He added that Tinubu had previously invited Atiku to work with him politically, arguing that their past interactions demonstrated that the President was familiar with the former vice president’s capabilities.
Comparing the records of the major presidential contenders, Momodu said Tinubu’s strongest credential was his tenure as governor of Lagos State, while Atiku’s experience as vice president and Peter Obi’s administration of Anambra State formed the basis of their respective claims to leadership.

Momodu argued that Tinubu had underestimated the complexities of governing Nigeria by assuming that the experience he gained in Lagos would be sufficient at the national level.
He said the President had encountered challenges because Nigeria’s political and economic realities differed from those of Lagos State.
“So, if you look at the three mainstream candidates today, the APC candidate Bola Tinubu, the ADC candidate Atiku Abubakar and the NDC candidate Peter Obi, you can judge for yourself,” he said.
Momodu also accused Tinubu’s administration of failing to communicate honestly with Nigerians about the country’s economic situation.
According to him, officials responsible for managing the economy were more concerned about telling the President what they believed he wanted to hear than presenting an accurate picture of the challenges facing the country.
“What is lacking in this government is that sincerity. Everything is about one man. The people who are running our economy today have to tell Nigerians only what they think the president wants to hear. They are not telling him the truth, and when tomorrow comes, he will realise it,” Momodu said.
