Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign, saying he was neither consulted nor gave consent for his name to be published.
Moghalu reacted in a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, shortly after Atiku’s African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign unveiled its structure for the 2027 presidential election. The campaign listed Moghalu among members of its policy team.
The former CBN deputy governor said the listing did not reflect his current political position, insisting that he had left partisan politics since 2022.
“For the record:
“1. I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.
“2. I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.
“3. I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria.”
Moghalu said his current professional engagements were focused on public policy and geopolitical risk, rather than partisan politics.
He said he serves as President of IGET Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, as well as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
The former CBN deputy governor stressed that his commitment to Nigeria should not be interpreted as support for any political party or candidate.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
The development comes after Atiku’s campaign announced a structure headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
According to the campaign structure, economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen chairs the Policy Team, while Professor Mohammed Sagagi serves as deputy chairman. Moghalu was listed among other policy team members.
Moghalu’s statement, however, makes clear that his inclusion was not based on his consent and that he does not regard himself as part of Atiku’s campaign structure.
