Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde, has rallied support for Dr. Ibrahim Adekunle, the party’s candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking through Tunde Tijani, a member of the party’s Elders Forum, during a campaign rally in Osogbo, yesterday, Makinde appealed to the electorate in Osun State to support all APM National Assembly candidates to ensure a successful “reset” for Nigeria.
Makinde likened the prospects of the APM candidates to his own political journey seven years ago, noting that critics had doubted his ability to win the governorship given his lack of prior political office experience.
“I urge the people of Osun to support Adekunle and all APM candidates as part of our collective effort to liberate ourselves from unemployment and hunger,” Makinde stated.
Addressing supporters at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, Adekunle called on young Nigerians to view his candidacy as an opportunity to phase out older politicians.
“It is time to relegate older politicians from public office, and I charge the youth to start that shift with me.
“We must stop begging political officeholders for what is rightfully ours. As one of you, I understand your challenges, and I am ready to offer strong representation in the Senate if elected,” Adekunle said.
He also urged citizens to shun political bitterness and violence, advocating for a peaceful election.
Corroborating his statement, the State Chairman of the APM, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, highlighted Adekunle’s record in education, healthcare, skill acquisition, and youth development, noting that his service-driven approach speaks for itself.
“Osun Central deserves representation that goes beyond merely occupying a seat in Abuja.
“Representation must be tangible, create opportunities, attract development, and give the people a stronger voice. Young people can no longer be useful only for election campaigns; it is time for them to move from spectators to decision-makers at the table,” Adekunle added.
During the rally, the APM also formally received several defectors from other political parties, pledging to accord them equal rights and opportunities within the party structure.
