2027: Kogi East APC Stakeholders demand full support for Erico to secure Tinubu’s victory

APC stakeholders in Omala Local Government have challenged the former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja, to throw his weight behind the party’s Kogi East senatorial candidate, Chief Joseph Ameh Erico.

A chieftain of the party, Hon. Aminu Attah, made the call on Tuesday, noting that the former deputy governor has remained lukewarm and failed to mobilize support for Erico.

According to Attah, this disposition threatens both the party’s unity and the voting strength of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the APC directive is a “top-to-bottom” campaign with no room for cherry-picking candidates.

“The only way we can be sure of genuine reconciliation between Edward Onoja and Yahaya Bello is for everyone to work for the party’s victory across all candidates. The idea that we are only working for Tinubu is unacceptable and amounts to party indiscipline,” Attah fired.

He alleged that Onoja’s support for President Tinubu is merely on paper, claiming the former deputy governor has refused to publicly endorse other party flagbearers.

“Erico’s endorsement will not in any way affect his political fortune. We will not tolerate anti-party activities, especially now that the Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency has finally been given the opportunity to produce a senator—a position we have long labored for.”

The former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State Governor also tackled politicians running an “isolated-candidate” campaign for President Tinubu, asking them to return to the grassroots and sell the party across board.

Attah dismissed rumors that Onoja is allegedly opposing Erico—who hails from the same Olamaboro Local Government—out of fear that the senatorial victory would scuttle his own chances of securing a federal appointment under Tinubu.

“For those who think Erico’s victory will affect their political appointments, they are getting it wrong. President Tinubu will appoint individuals based on effort, commitment, and competence, not where you come from,” Attah stated.
