Kebbi State Government has declared that the present administration will not tolerate any form of political thuggery during the electioneering campaigns in the state.
Special Adviser to Kebbi Governor on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, stated this on behalf of the state government in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
Zuru was reacting to the recent violence in Jega town, where properties of innocent citizens were destroyed by suspected political thugs.
According to him, “Kebbi State Government has condemned the recent violence and destruction reported in parts of Jega, describing the incident as unacceptable and urging security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the unrest and bring anyone found culpable to justice, irrespective of political affiliation or status.”
“The government is particularly concerned about violent attitudes demonstrated during the politically motivated incident.”
“While the Government recognises the genuine security concerns confronting a significant number of states across the country, it is important to note that insecurity should not become a pretext for violence, destruction of property, or attacks on individuals and political organisations.”
“The State Government, therefore, calls on all political parties, their supporters, community leaders, and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tension. Political differences should be resolved through dialogue, lawful democratic processes, and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.”
Zuru explained that the government commends security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders for their efforts to restore calm and protect lives and property.
“It equally urges the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the Jega incident.”

“The government reiterates that the protection of lives and property remains a collective responsibility. No political party, group, or individual should encourage, sponsor, or participate in acts capable of undermining public peace and security.”
Zuru insisted that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris remains committed to the socio-economic development of Kebbi State and will continue to implement programmes and projects across the state while working with security agencies and communities to safeguard the peace necessary for sustainable development.
He said that the State Government sympathises with residents who suffered losses during the incident and assures them that their concerns will continue to receive the attention of the relevant authorities.
“At this critical period, the government calls on all citizens to reject violence, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and work together to preserve peace, security, and democratic participation across Kebbi State.”
“It also warned that the viable and impactful socio-economic development programmes and projects will not be allowed to be destroyed through politically motivated violence and political thuggery, stressing that no individual, group of individuals or organisation can claim monopoly of violence under any guise.”
“The Kebbi State Government under the leadership of Comrade Governor Nasir Idris remains committed to the socio-economic development of the state and will continue to implement programmes and projects across the state while working with the security agencies and communities to safeguard the peace and sustainable development.”
“The government urged political parties, supporters, community leaders, and stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements and rhetoric.”
Zuru added that religious and community leaders have also been requested to intensify prayers for peace and the need for peaceful coexistence among the multi-ethnic and religious communities in the state.
