From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has urged his operational commanders to remain neutral, professional and respectful of human rights ahead of the 2027 polls.
Bakori gave the charge during a strategic lecture on Election Security Management held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Bompai, Kano.
The lecture was attended by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Tactical and Operational Units and other key officers of the command.
In his address, the Commissioner commended them for their dedication and resilience in crime prevention and control, saying it had led to the relative peace and stability that was enjoyed in the state.
He however warned that officers must remain absolutely neutral, apolitical and non-partisan in the discharge of their duties, particularly during the ongoing electioneering campaigns.
“The Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and actors,” Bakori said, warning that any officer found engaging in partisan politics or compromising the integrity of the electoral process would face strict disciplinary action.
He charged them to operate with professionalism, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and to work selflessly to earn public trust and confidence.
“Public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing,” he said, urging them to strengthen community partnership and intelligence-led policing to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free electoral process.
He reiterated its resolve, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to provide adequate security before, during and after the 2027 elections in the state.
