The lingering disagreements among leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State could undermine the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections if not urgently resolved, a party chieftain in the state, Aminu Shehu Uba Sharada, has warned.
Sharada, who is an aide to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, therefore called on President Bola Tinubu and the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Abdulaziz Yari, to intervene and reconcile the contending interests within the Kano chapter before the divisions deepen.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sharada said the President needed to be given a clear picture of the political situation in Kano, warning that attempts to portray the state chapter as united could prevent the national leadership from addressing the problems confronting it.
“Let me be frank: anyone giving the impression that everything is fine within the Kano APC is not giving the President the full picture,” he disclosed, adding that the existence of disagreements among party leaders and stakeholders should not be ignored, particularly with the 2027 elections drawing closer.
“There are disagreements and visible concerns among party leaders and stakeholders, and if they are not addressed early, they could have wider consequences for the party,” he said.
He urged the national leadership to prioritise reconciliation and broad consultations rather than allow existing differences to become entrenched.
“This is not the time to take sides or deepen existing divisions. It is time for consultation, reconciliation and genuine political engagement,” Sharada said.
He stressed that the responsibility for rebuilding confidence in the Kano APC rested on both the national and state leadership, urging them to create a platform where the various interests could resolve their differences.
“Every leader and stakeholder has a role to play in bringing the various interests together and rebuilding confidence within the party,” he stated.
Furthermore, Sharada said the APC still had a substantial support base in Kano, but warned that the party could only maximise its strength if its leaders were united around a common political direction.
“The APC in Kano has a broad base of committed members and stakeholders. What is needed now is leadership that can bring everyone to the table, listen to different concerns and establish a common direction,” he said.
He therefore appealed to leaders at both the national and state levels to “act swiftly” to resolve the issues.
