An Aba-based cleric, Rev. Chika Ubani, has declared his support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid for re-election in 2027, describing him as a candidate whose political influence extends beyond Abia North Senatorial District.
Ubani also declared support for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, saying his preference for both leaders was based on their records of public service, rather than their political affiliations.
The cleric spoke during a church service in Aba last Sunday, where he urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and other political stakeholders in Abia North to openly support Kalu’s return to the Senate.
“Orji Uzor Kalu is a candidate for the entire Abia State in 2027. He is the face of the APC in Abia. Many people are listening to the party, today, because of him. As for me, I will vote for Governor Alex Otti and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” he said.
Ubani also called on other aspirants seeking the Abia North senatorial seat to support Kalu’s candidacy. He commended the senator’s relationship with Christian institutions, particularly his reported contributions to educational infrastructure across different denominations.
Ubani said Kalu has constructed hostel facilities in Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Anglican institutions, including Holy Rosary School, Methodist Trinity College, and Hope Waddell. He also cited an infrastructure project at the Federal Government College, Ohafia.
“Orji Uzor Kalu is a project for lovers of Christ and education. He has demonstrated his love for the Church through practical investments in our schools. He has built for Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Anglicans. We must appreciate those who support institutions that are shaping the future of our children,” the cleric stated.
Ubani also praised Kalu’s representation in the Senate since 2019, citing interventions in rural road construction, scholarships, youth empowerment, and foreign training opportunities. He said investments in rural roads could improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare, while scholarships and training opportunities could contribute to the development of young people.
“When you construct roads in rural communities, you improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare. When you facilitate scholarships and foreign training for young people, you are investing in their future. These are important aspects of representation that deserve recognition,” he added. The cleric said Kalu’s reported contributions to education, infrastructure, and human capital development had extended the impact of his representation beyond Abia North.
Looking beyond the 2027 elections, Ubani proposed that Kalu should seek election to represent Abia South Senatorial District for two terms beginning in 2031, after completing his current representation of Abia North. He said the proposal was based on his assessment of Kalu’s experience in public service and his belief that the senator could contribute to the development of other parts of the state.
