2027: Jigawa APC raises committee to reclaim NASS seats from PDP

From Mohammed Abubakar, Dutse

Determined to reclaim the National Assembly seats it lost to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections in the Southwest Senatorial District, the Jigawa state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) has raised a four-man planning and strategic committee to actualise the objective.

The Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, who gave the hint at the grand finale of the pre-campaign consultative stakeholders’gathering of the APC in his home local government of Miga, said the committee, which he heads, is expected to provide a broader roadmap on how the party could achieve the objective of taking back the senatorial and two house of representatives seats for the Southwest senatorial district.

Outside Dangyatin, other members of the committee include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Chief of Staff, ( CoS) Government House, Dutse, Sen. Mustapha Makama Kiyawa; and the State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Babangida Umar Gantsa,

He disclosed that the committee is to commence visits across the district to re-awaken party members. The tour, which is also part of the strategy for the 2027 general election, has been designed to bring together party leaders from polling units, wards, and local governments, along with other stakeholders, for direct engagement with candidates and to work in unison for APC victory.

The Speaker said the leaders were selected based on their well known political strategy, grassroots mobilisation, and vast experience in state’s political trajectory. They are expected to provide a headway that can enable the zone to produce more votes for the APC than the others, and also to reclaim the senatorial seat and house of representatives currently held by the opposition PDP..

The southwest senatorial district provides a daunting challenge to the ruling APC, as it parades equally strong candidates from other political parties, some of who were APC members, such as a one-time Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba of the PDP and Ahmad Isa Baraya of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

For the House of Representatives, apart from Is’haq Tasi’u Soja of the APC, there are Bala Usman Chamo of the ADC, Aminu Wada Abubakar of the PDP, Usman Inuwa Dutse of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Musa Sule Dutse of the Allied People’s Movement, (APM), all for Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency.

For Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency, on the other hand, the APC’s Suleiman Da’u Aliyu is expected to slug it with the incumbent member Mr. Adamu Yakubu of the PDP

The Speaker, who represents Miga in the state assembly, impressed upon his people to massively vote for APC at all levels from presidency down to the state assembly, reminding them that the APC governments have been responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of people of the area.

He re-iterated his earlier views that even though the Southwest senatorial district was “squarely” an APC zone, the party lost the zone to the PDP in 2023 as a result of internal disagreement. Though he did not provide details of the disagreement, the speaker expressed the strong belief that the current attempt would help heal every would that have come about

“He said, “The administration of His Excellency, Malam Umar Namadi FCA has done a lot for this local government council such as the provision of road networks, provision of quality education skills empowerment employment opportunities. Therefore, giving him and other candidates would enable them to consolidate on the achievements recorded.”

The State Chairman of the party, Ahmed Garba Maikudi, who was represented by his deputy, Nasiru Dahiru Jahun, lauded the leaders of the party from the zone for their initiative of sensitising the electorate from the zone ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jahun re-iterated the belief that the north should allow the south to complete the two terms of eight years”just as they allowed our son and brother,” noting that any attempt to abridge that would breed discontent within the country’s political environment.
