Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday, told the South-South to join President Bola Tinubu to build a new Nigeria.
Okowa, who was the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in 2023, said he had now seen the light.
Speaking at the flag-off of the South-South campaigns of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Tinubu’s re-election in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Okowa said the President deserved a second term, stressing that Tinubu’s policies were tailored to build a new Nigeria.
He urged voters to come out in 2027 and vote massively for the President and all APC candidates.
Okowa, who is the APC candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, said he had no regret dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), along with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for the APC.
“You all know that in 2023 I was in another ticket but I have seen the light and I have seen what Mr President is doing for Nigeria. It is the right thing to be done and I have, along with my governor, long ago crossed to the APC to join hands with Mr President, because he is truly building a new Nigeria.”

In a post on his Facebook page, Okowa explained why he was backing Tinubu.
He wrote: “At the APC presidential campaign rally in Rivers State today, I joined party leaders and supporters in expressing my support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his efforts to rebuild Nigeria’s economic foundation.
“I highlighted the importance of the ongoing reforms, particularly the increased resources available to state and local governments, improved capacity to meet salary and pension obligations, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which is expanding access to higher education.
“Building a stronger Nigeria requires difficult but necessary decisions, sound economic policies and a commitment to securing the future of generations to come. I believe we must sustain the reform process and work collectively towards a more stable, prosperous, and secure nation.”
Okowa said the South-South must not be left behind in the Tinubu re-election movement. He said the region had already benefited from the president’s reforms and infrastructure drive.
He called on party faithful, supporters, and undecided voters to unite behind Tinubu and the APC ahead of 2027.
