Housing and urban development minister, Abdullahi Yusuf Atah, has insisted that as a Nigerian citizen, he has the constitutional right to freedom of expression and opinion.
In his reply to a letter from the APC in Kano, which charged him of making unauthorised and divisive political pronouncements on the 2027 aspiration of members, the minister stated that their charge was not only unfounded but also reflected their narrow and erroneous understanding of democratic rights and internal party dynamics.
“If offering a sincere, well-reasoned and patriotic opinion on the future direction of the party ahead of the 2027 elections is what the writers of the letter consider a wrongdoing, then the Minister stands guilty as charged; guilty only of loving his party enough to speak truthfully and strategically at a crucial moment.”
The Minister explained that his recent comments on the suitability of the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, as the most viable gubernatorial candidate for the APC in 2027 were his personal and patriotic assessment and not the official party declarations.

He emphasised that Barau remained the strongest and most unifying choice for the APC to reclaim Kano in the next electoral cycle.
The minister, in a statement by his aide, Seyi Olorunsola, urged party leaders in Kano to approach issues with the utmost caution, maturity and strategic foresight.
“The APC must remain united, focused and forward-looking, if it intends to reclaim the governorship of Kano State in 2027 and deliver an overwhelming vote for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid,” he stated.
The Minister urged party members and the public to rally behind President Tinubu at this critical time, adding that, “What the nation needs now is stability, collaboration and undistracted leadership to protect Nigerians from bandits, terrorists and all threats to national peace.
