Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has promised to serve only one four-year term if elected President in 2027, pledging to form an inclusive government and tackle Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.
Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), made the promise at a party town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, on Saturday.
“Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he said.
The governor said his administration would focus on tackling insecurity, poverty and other challenges confronting Nigerians.
Makinde’s pledge mirrors that of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, who has also promised to serve a single four-year term if elected.
The one-term promises have drawn attention amid the debate over Nigeria’s informal power-sharing arrangement between the North and South. President Bola Tinubu, who is seeking re-election in 2027, is from the South.
Makinde’s pledge comes as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with candidates expected to present their plans for addressing the country’s major challenges.
