The Speaker of Jigawa State Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has declared that the north, particularly Hausa/Fulani, has no reason not to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming general elections.
Addressing reporters at the end of the pre-rally consultative gathering of stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South-West Senatorial District of the state in Jahun Local Government Area, Dangyatin expressed the imperative for the north to back Tinubu, especially given the role, he said, the president played in ensuring the election of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and his re-election in 2019.
He noted that the gathering was to formally introduce all the candidates of the party for elective positions for the 2027 elections ranging from the president, the governor, senatorial, House of Representatives and Assembly seats from the zone to the electorate at the polling units, ward and local government levels.
The South-West senatorial district is the zone that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to have a strong support base. Besides winning the Senate seat during the 2023 elections, the PDP won two of the five House of Representatives seats and two seats of the State Assembly from the area in that election.
According to the lawmaker, the response of the people had shown that the people were solidly behind the APC, an indication that they are happy with the president and the state governor, Umar Namadi.
Dangyatin, who chairs the Progressives Speakers’ Forum (PSF), declared: “We are happy with what Mr President has done for northern Nigeria, we, Hausa/Fulani especially, the President has helped us because our father, our brother, the late President Muhammadu Buhari could not have become president without President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

“You recall that he contested elections, not once, not twice, not three times, but when they merged with President Tinubu with the backing and all the resources of President Tinubu, Buhari won, did his first and second term. So, it is a must that we have to support President Tinubu to win his second term too.”
Reflecting on the outcome of the 2023 elections regarding the zone, the lawmaker attributed the losses the APC suffered in the last polls to what he called an internal dispute.
His words: “Even the last election in which we lost was due to an internal issue that brought PDP at that time. But this time around, we can assure you that everything has been taken care of and I can tell you that this zone is squarely an APC zone.”
Reminded about the public disapproval of President Tinubu’s economic policies, which have left majority of Nigerians in deep distress, Dangyatin, who is the state coordinator of the City Boy Movement (CBM), admitted the pains the citizens were passing through as a result of the economic reforms of the present administration, saying it was a panacea for a better tomorrow.
According to him, “You know that, if there are economic reforms in every country in the world, there must be hardship, but if the people are patient, that hardship will disappear and people will be better for it. So to me, the hardship is just a matter of time because if you remember, during the tail end of Buhari’s tenure before the removal of oil subsidy, we were buying a bag of grains for almost N100,000, but today it is merely N30,000 or even less than that in some cases, so, I know definitely that will also go away.”
He assured the people of Jigawa and other Nigerians that if they re-elect Tinubu, Nigeria would change for the better.
The gathering was attended by an array of prominent political leaders from the zone, notably the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bala Ibrahim, the Chief of Staff (CoS), Government House, Senator Mustapha Makama Kiyawa, commissioners, special advisers, special assistants to the state governor from the zone.
