Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has outlined his plans for the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Hamzat, who is the All Progressives Congress candidate for the election, spoke at a private dinner organised by 7-Fifteen Capital for young business leaders in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The meeting brought together executives, entrepreneurs, investors and other members of the business community for discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing Lagos.
Hamzat said his agenda would focus on education, healthcare, youth and small business opportunities, infrastructure and security.
“The next chapter for Lagos is going to be about building on the progress we have already made and taking the state to a new level of innovation, inclusion and infrastructure.
“We must establish Lagos as a leading centre for education, strengthen healthcare delivery, create more opportunities for our young people and MSMEs, and make Lagos the safest mega-city in Africa,” Hamzat said.
He also spoke about his plans for what he described as “Digital Lagos 2.0”, which would involve the use of artificial intelligence, blockchain and smart-city technologies in governance.
The deputy governor said the initiative was aimed at improving digital government and positioning Lagos as a technology hub.
Hamzat also addressed issues including sustainability, town planning, the creative economy, tourism and public-private partnerships during the interaction.
Speaking on the gathering, 7-Fifteen Capital CEO and Co-Founder, Tope Adekoya, said it was an opportunity to bring young business leaders together with public officials to discuss issues affecting Lagos.
“Lagos is home to an increasingly influential community of young founders and business leaders who are creating opportunities and contributing meaningfully to the city’s growth,” Adekoya said.
He said the interaction provided an opportunity for participants to raise issues and engage directly with public leadership on the future of the state.
Also speaking, 7-Fifteen Capital Deputy CEO and Co-Founder, Adesuwa Belo-Osagie, said “As we expand our presence in Lagos, we recognise that our responsibility goes beyond financial investment and property development.
“The next chapter of Lagos will be written collectively by public servants, businesses and private citizens who care enough to participate in shaping it. We want to be part of that process. For us, that means being a positive force in this community, supporting the ideas, people, conversations and initiatives that can contribute to a better quality of life. A better Lagos is the goal, and we want the measure of our presence here to be the positive contribution we make towards achieving it.”
The meeting formed part of engagements between Hamzat and members of the Lagos business community ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
