Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, has led members of his campaign council on a reconciliation visit to the incumbent representative of the constituency, Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, in Asaba, Delta State.
The meeting, held yesterday, September 20, brought together Elumelu, chairman of the campaign council, Chief Edwin Uzor and other members of the campaign team.
The engagement centred on reconciliation, party unity and greater cooperation among political stakeholders in Aniocha/Oshimili.
Addressing Okolie, Elumelu said the development of the constituency required unity and cooperation among its political leaders and stakeholders.
He described Okolie as an important stakeholder, whose experience and relationships could contribute to the political development of the four local government areas that make up the constituency.
Elumelu also appealed to Okolie to support his candidacy and work with the APC campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I have come to appeal to you to help and support me for my election; not only for my election, but also for all the candidates of the APC in the coming national and state elections from the President to the House of Assembly,” he said.
He added that Okolie’s experience in the National Assembly and knowledge of the political system would be valuable to the campaign and the party.
“You know the system, you know the people. I know you have a role to play. Please, come and support us and lead us so that we can achieve maximum votes in the four local government areas within the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency,” he said.
He also commended Okolie for remaining in the APC after the party’s primary election and for accepting the outcome that produced him as the candidate.
He said political differences should not prevent stakeholders from working together in the interest of the people, noting that his relationship with Okolie had passed through different political phases but should ultimately be defined by brotherhood and a shared interest in the constituency.
Responding, Okolie said he had known Elumelu as a friend and as a political rival but stressed that they remained brothers.
He expressed confidence in Elumelu’s legislative experience and understanding of the National Assembly.
He said he had no intention of fighting what he described as the will of God and declared his readiness to work with Elumelu. “I never fight the will of God. We are together,” he said.
He also recalled reaching out to Elumelu after the primary election, indicating his willingness to maintain a relationship beyond political contests.
In his vote of thanks, Andrew Odum, commended Okolie for receiving the delegation and described the meeting as a demonstration of the value of dialogue, mutual respect and engagement in managing political differences.
He expressed hope that the renewed understanding between Elumelu and Okolie would usher in greater cooperation among political stakeholders in Aniocha/Oshimili.
The meeting ended with both politicians expressing their willingness to work together in the broader interests of the constituency for the 2027 elections.
