The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Edo State and the state police command have called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence, intimidation, and other forms of electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made during a peace walk organised by IPAC and attended by chairmen and supporters of various political parties in the state.
IPAC Chairman Bishop Akhalamhe said the initiative was designed to promote peaceful political participation and remind stakeholders that the interest of Edo State and Nigeria should take precedence over partisan interests.
Akhalamhe said parties might belong to different political platforms and support different candidates, but they should remain united in their commitment to the development of the state and the country.
He urged political parties and their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation, campaigns of calumny and the destruction of opponents’ billboards, stressing that elections should be conducted in a peaceful and credible atmosphere.
The IPAC chairman also called on political parties to respect the outcome of a credible electoral process and rally behind whoever is chosen by the people.
He disclosed that the party chairmen who participated in the peace walk would take the message of peaceful elections to their members and supporters across Edo State.

Also speaking, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, urged politicians to treat elections as a democratic contest rather than a do-or-die affair.
Daaor called on candidates to make their campaigns issue-based and respect their opponents as well as members of the public.
The commissioner assured residents that the police command would provide adequate security to enable eligible voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
He said the command was committed to ensuring that the 2027 general elections in Edo State were free, fair and peaceful.
The Edo State Chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Dr Royal Otasuwie, also condemned the destruction of political billboards and party secretariats, as well as acts of political intimidation.
Otasuwie urged political actors to embrace tolerance and peaceful competition, expressing optimism that the 2027 general elections would be among the best conducted in Nigeria.
