People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. Yaaqub Olugbenga Daranijo, has unveiled his Campaign Council, even as he vowed to run a people-centred, grassroots- focused campaign.
According to a statement by his media office, Anthony Onwugbaramuko, MBA, will serve as Head of Campaign/Chief Strategist, providing overall strategic direction and coordinating political, organisational and electoral strategy.
The Council will be led by Oluwatobi Adewunmi, current Deputy State Youth Leader of the PDP, as Director-General; Gloria Omore Adedeji as Deputy Director-General; and Abel Onoseta as Secretary.
Adewunmi’s appointment reflects the campaign’s commitment to youth inclusion, blending youthful energy with party experience.
Shehu Bello will head Media & Communications, overseeing public communications, media relations, digital engagement and messaging.
The wider structure will integrate the PDP grassroots network with specialised directorates for Political and Grassroots Mobilisation; Research, Strategy and Intelligence; Communications, Media and Digital Engagement; Women Affairs; Youth Mobilisation; Ndigbo and Arewa Community Engagement; Legal Affairs and Compliance; and Electoral Operations and Vote Protection.
The 10 PDP Ward Chairmen will serve as ward-level coordinators linking the central campaign to polling units and communities. The Council will also work with PDP LGA leadership, Council of Elders, and House of Assembly candidates for Ikeja I and II, Hon. Benle Yusuf and Hon. Steve Oswald.
Daranijo said the structure is designed to take the campaign closer to the people, giving residents a voice in shaping priorities.
“This campaign must be felt in our communities. We want to listen to the trader, the young person seeking opportunity, the parent concerned about their children. We will not just talk to people; we will listen, organize and act together,” he said.
He also noted that conversations will be turned into priorities around opportunities, livelihoods, stronger communities and accountable representation.
Adewunmi spoke on behalf of members of the Council. He said the focus will be on disciplined grassroots organization translating participation into results: “We will take the campaign to wards, polling units and streets, set clear targets and report what we hear.”
The Council pledged an issue-based, peaceful campaign focused on active engagement across 10 wards, accessible channels for residents to contribute, meaningful roles for women, youth and diverse communities, translating feedback into policy priorities, and building networks beyond 2027.
Meanwhile,Daranijo charged members to measure success by reach and impact, not rallies or posters: “Politics must improve people’s lives. If people cannot see and experience progress, we have not done enough.”
The Council will immediately intensify ward engagements and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
