2027: Bayelsa PDP leaders vow to give party tickets to credible candidates

Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State have vowed to ensure only credible candidates fly the party’s flag in the 2027 elections.

The party chairman, Georger Turnah, and a prominent grassroots mobiliser, Hon Richard Akinaka, stated this at the party secretariat in Yenagoa, where the latter came to revalidate his membership of the party.

Akinaka, who expressed happiness at the state of the party in Bayelsa State, noted that the organic support for the party in Bayelsa villages is overwhelming.

According to him, he came to revalidate his membership as part of the efforts to rebuild the party and return it to the people.

Akinaka decried what he called a yawning gap in leadership at all levels in Bayelsa and appealed to the people to support credible candidates with proven character.

‘’The political party of Bayelsa is PDP. And everything about PDP in Bayelsa is organic. There is no deceit in wooing people because the PDP has been part and parcel of Bayelsa. I want to appeal to you all to still stand with the party. We must ensure we field credible candidates who can help us win elections to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

‘’Beyond that, we must identify those who can serve the people. So, we must identify people with proven character who have demonstrated such in their service and attitude over time, and must be given the party’s flag in elections so that we can become victorious. Bayelsa State needs leadership. There is a yawning gap in leadership at all levels.’’

Turnah, in his remarks, stated that the primaries of the party would make it clear that the PDP has returned to Bayelsans.

He expressed optimism that PDP would clear all doubts about its electoral strength by winning elections in 2027.

‘’ PDP in Bayelsa is very strong and solid in Bayelsa State. Under my leadership, we are doing things differently. When the time for the primaries comes, it will be very obvious that PDP has returned to the people in Bayelsa. Using the direct mode of election, we would ensure that only leaders who emerge from the people will fly the party’s flags. The assurance we give to Bayelsans is that the PDP in 2027 will clear a lot of doubts in the state. We are going to field credible candidates. People-oriented candidates are going to stand for elections, and we are going to win elections in the National and State Assemblies.’’
