Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has stepped up political mobilisation in Kano North , urging constituents to rally behind President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barau made the call on Thursday at the National Assembly while receiving two delegations from Dambatta Local Government Area of the senatorial district, where he also disclosed that he was empowering his constituents with N130 million, to be disbursed in N100,000 monthly start-up capital to 1,300 petty traders, artisans and other constituents.
Barau explained that the intervention was part of efforts to expand economic opportunities for constituents and make households in Kano North more financially independent, even as he assured the people of Dambatta and the entire senatorial district that he would sustain his interventions in empowerment, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
The senator, who represents Kano North, also highlighted his ongoing intervention programmes in the district which he said includes a monthly scheme providing N100,000 start-up capital to 1,300 petty traders, artisans and other beneficiaries.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, this is part of a broader empowerment programme designed to help constituents establish or expand small businesses and improve their economic wellbeing.
Other interventions attributed to Barau include the distribution of fertilisers, water pumps, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles, refrigerators and other support items to constituents.
The delegations, which visited to appreciate the senator for projects and empowerment initiatives across Kano North, comprised representatives from the 21 wards of Dambatta LGA led by former three-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji, as well as a delegation led by Barau’s Senior Legislative Aide in Dambatta, Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Bayero.
Barau assured the people of Dambatta and the wider Kano North Senatorial District that he would sustain his interventions in areas including economic empowerment, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
He said the objective was to create opportunities for constituents to become economically independent and contribute meaningfully to the development of the district.
Barau also urged his constituents to maintain their support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I appeal to all of us to remain united. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, myself as your Senator, and all candidates of the APC contesting the 2027 elections,” he said.
“With unity, loyalty, and collective commitment, we can achieve a more prosperous Kano North and a stronger Nigeria.
“Our objective is to ensure that every household in Kano North has something meaningful to do and that our people become economically independent,” Barau added.
