The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has said its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would remain physically present and responsive if elected in the 2027 presidential election.
The council said Atiku would not operate as an “absentee President” and would remain available to respond to issues requiring presidential attention.
Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the statement on Monday in Abuja while receiving members of the Atiku Unity Movement, led by Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said Nigeria needed a president who would be available to respond to national challenges and provide direction when important decisions were required.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance,” he said.
He added, “Nigeria cannot afford a situation in which there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments. The country requires firm and focused leadership.”

Ologbondiyan also referenced Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign on the removal of the petrol subsidy, saying the former vice president had advocated a phased approach to limit the impact on Nigerians.
He said Atiku’s current proposals also addressed concerns over energy costs and the wider cost of living.
At the meeting, Eburuwe said members of the Atiku Unity Movement remained committed to the ADC candidate and would continue grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
The ADC campaign council has, in recent weeks, expanded its campaign structure, with Atiku approving a national campaign council that includes former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Austin Akobundu, Dele Momodu and former APC National Chairman John Oyegun.
The council has also criticised President Bola Tinubu over his absence from the country, an issue that has featured in its campaign messaging ahead of the 2027 election.
