Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for change in the 2027 general elections, citing the rising cost of living and persistent insecurity across the country.

Atiku made the appeal in a statement shared on his X account, where he acknowledged the economic difficulties and security concerns affecting families, pensioners and young people.

Addressing Nigerians, the former vice president said many households were struggling to afford basic necessities, while insecurity had left families worried about the safety of their loved ones.

“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” he said.

He described the difficulties facing different groups, noting that parents worried about feeding their children, pensioners had to choose between buying food and medicine, while young workers struggled to meet the rising costs of transportation, rent and other basic needs.

Atiku also expressed concern about the fear of kidnapping and attacks in communities across the country.

“And across the country, families live with the fear of kidnapping, attacks and whether their loved ones will return home safely,” he said.

He warned against allowing the combination of economic hardship and insecurity to become the reality inherited by future generations.

“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” Atiku stated.

The former vice president urged eligible Nigerians who had registered to vote to collect their PVCs and keep them safe ahead of the 2027 elections.

“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.

Atiku also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the cost of living and pledged to pursue measures aimed at making life more affordable and improving national security.

“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he said.

He called on Nigerians across different generations to unite behind his appeal for change, saying the country should provide conditions that allow families to live safely and with dignity.

“Let us stand together, across generations, and vote for a Nigeria where every family can live with dignity, safety and hope,” Atiku added.

His statement places the cost of living and insecurity at the centre of his appeal to voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
