Miffed by the growing northern hostility against President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from the rejoin, have made a passionate appeal to the electorate in the three northern geopolitical zones to re-elect him for his second tenure in office.
The stakeholders who hinged their appeal on the principle of power rotation between south and north, pleaded with the northern voters to respect the convention by massively voting to re-elect President Tinubu.
Operating under the auspices of Nigeria Forward Project, the ruling party’s stakeholders appealed that the North should not seek for return of the presidency after only one term of the current administration of President Tinubu.
They argued that allowing President Tinubu to complete his second tenure would promote continuity and give the government an opportunity to consolidate its policies.
Co-convener of the project and Kano state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, made the appeal at a press conference in Abuja in Abuja on Friday at the formal unveiling the mass mobilisation platform aimed at promoting national unity, citizen engagement and continuity in governance ahead of the 2027 general elections and beyond.
“We have two fundamental goals: one is national unity, and the other is the consolidation of the development that we have already seen. Why are we talking about national unity from a number of angles? Looking at the entrenched culture we have already been witnessing in the country, where we have witnessed the rotation of the presidency in the country.
“Don’t forget, so as to be fair, the North had its own eight years under Muhammadu Buhari, and now the South is having its own under Bola Tinubu, the first tenure. And then the North should not be unfair to the South.
“We feel that we should be very much fair to our own brothers and sisters in the South. This means allowing the South to continue and complete its own tenure, so that the North can stay fresh for a complete another round of eight years. Having to interrupt that will actually destabilise a lot of things and jeopardise what we are having.
“Most importantly, we are looking at the consolidation of the gains that we have already witnessed under President Bola Tinubu. We have to be very much fair to him. We are not trying to be his own dependency here, although he has his own representative in the person of the Minister. At the same time, we are also trying to align ourselves with the citizens of the country,” he said.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh SAN, who unveiled the strategic mass movement project highlighted the importance of engaging with Nigerian citizens adopting bottom up, across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, relating to the developmental trajectory of the administration of President Tinubu.
“Nigeria Forward is about collective responsibility to extend the emerging gains of the Renewed Hope Reform Initiative of President Tinubu, by standing with our progressive president to ensure continuity and consolidation.
“The Nigeria we seek is one where our people are not merely spectators to development, but active participants in it. President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is fundamentally about creating the conditions for Nigeria to produce, innovate, invest, work, prosper and build secure livelihoods. But policies achieve their greatest impact when citizens understand them, participate in them, and are able to connect them to opportunities in their own communities.
“This is where Nigeria Forward has an important role to play. It is important that we mention that the key stakeholders and leaders of Nigeria Forward are grassroots leaders, community leaders, communication gurus, and, of course, one of whom is the Commissioner for Information of Kano State.
“It is important that we engage with Nigerian citizens from the bottom up, across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, as it relates to how the developmental trajectory of this government, the administration of President Tinubu, is impacting on them.
The development story of Nigeria, particularly Northern Nigeria, must not be reduced to political slogans or isolated project announcements,” he said.
