The United Kingdom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its diaspora political structure with the inauguration of its Leicestershire branch, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The move is part of efforts by the ruling party’s UK chapter to broaden its membership and mobilise Nigerians in the diaspora in support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC ahead of the elections.
The inauguration, held at Beaumont Leys, Leicester, attracted party leaders, members and supporters from across the United Kingdom and other parts of the diaspora.
Chairman of APC UK and the APC Committee of Diaspora Chairmen (APC-CDC), Tunde Doherty, charged the newly inaugurated executives to strengthen the party’s presence in Leicestershire, expand its membership and intensify mobilisation ahead of 2027.
Doherty, who cited Articles 9 and 12 of the APC constitution, described the document as the foundation of the party’s unity and discipline and urged members to abide by its provisions. He charged the new leadership to work collectively and actively participate in the party’s mobilisation and campaign efforts.
Also speaking, Chairman of APC Atlanta, United States, Waheed Masha, urged the new executives to promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration and its Renewed Hope Agenda among Nigerians in the diaspora and the international community.
Masha congratulated the executives and urged them to use their positions to broaden understanding and support for the ruling party among Nigerians abroad.

Other party leaders who delivered goodwill messages included Chairman of the APC Oyo State Caucus, Gbenla Adebayo; Deputy Chairman, APC Birmingham and Walsall, Akeem Bolarinwa; Deputy Chairman, APC Coventry, Dr. Ade Sonola; and Chairman, APC Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, Prince Fola Olagbegi.
Dr. Suleiman Suleiman of APC Manchester urged the new executives to broaden the membership base and encourage greater participation of Nigerians of Northern extraction in the party’s activities in the UK.
He said inclusiveness and wider mobilisation would be important as the APC prepared for the 2027 elections.
APC UK officials at the inauguration included Deputy Chairman, South, Muyiwa Adesua; Deputy Secretary, Ayokunle Agunbiade; Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ajisola; and Deputy Publicity Secretary, Akin Williams.
The Leicestershire branch is headed by Olanrewaju Badmus, with Julius Ajayi as Deputy Chairman and Oladele Okubanjo as Secretary.
Other executives are Ladi Ali, Deputy Secretary; Gladys Iyere, Woman Leader; Henry Ayanmele, Youth Leader; Kehinde Atolagbe, Financial Secretary; Taiwo Sowunmi, Treasurer; and Olakunle Kazeem, Welfare Officer.
The new branch is expected to coordinate the APC’s membership drive and political activities in Leicestershire as the party intensifies its diaspora mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
