Vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would withdraw from the party’s ticket with presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar if petrol sells for N600 per litre by tomorrow.
Amaechi made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
He was responding to the Federal Government’s position that a reduction in petrol prices would lead to lower transportation costs and ease the cost of living.
Amaechi questioned whether transport fares had reduced, particularly on the route from Nyanya to Abuja, as he challenged the government’s claim.
He said many Nigerians were yet to feel a significant reduction in transportation and other living expenses despite changes in petrol prices.
“Every day he repeats the same thing. He said by October 1, the price of transport would come down. Check the cost of transport from Nyanya to Abuja; has anything come down? Has anything changed?” he said.
He added that if petrol sells for N600 per litre, he would campaign for President Bola Tinubu.
“If fuel has come down to N600 tomorrow, I will campaign for President Tinubu. If you doubt, come with your camera to my house in the morning. I will go to the filling station and buy fuel,” he said.
Amaechi further stated that he would withdraw as Atiku’s running mate and support Tinubu if the price of petrol reaches N600 per litre.
“If it comes down to N600, I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will withdraw as the Vice Presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu,” he added.
