The African Democratic Congress ( ADC) has unveiled senator representing Abia Central, Senator Austin Akobundu, as Director General for its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
Akobundu, a former Minister of State for Defence, was unveiled alongside other members of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
The Abia Senator, who retired as a
Colonel in the Nigerian Army, had previously served as Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) National Vice Chairman ( South), as well as National Organizing Secretary of the opposition party.
The Campaign Council, in a statement by the Director, Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, stated that as Director General, the Abia Senator will oversee the day-to-day management of the Council and coordination of the presidential campaign.
“A serving Senator representing Abia Central, retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army and former Minister of State for Defence, Akobundu brings together military discipline, administrative experience, legislative exposure and years of political organisation.
“As Director-General, he will sit at the operational centre of the campaign, with responsibility for translating strategy into action, coordinating the various arms of the campaign and ensuring discipline, cohesion and accountability across its national structure,” the statement noted.
Furthermore, it added that “over the years, Senator Akobundu has occupied several senior positions in party administration, including National Vice Chairman and South-East Zonal Chairman, as well as National Organising Secretary.
“That background in political organisation and national party management is central to the task before him: harmonising campaign structures, coordinating stakeholders, strengthening field operations and ensuring that the various components of the Presidential Campaign Council function as one national organisation.”
