National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has warned that the party will resist any attempt to manipulate or rig the 2027 general elections.

Mark, however, said the ADC would comply with electoral laws and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He spoke on Wednesday in Abuja when the Governing Council of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, visited the ADC national headquarters.

Mark said the party was committed to conducting its activities in a manner that would strengthen public confidence in the democratic process.

“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of good conduct as a political party. We will play by the rules. But we will not accept rigging or allow ourselves to be rigged out,” he said.

He added that the ADC would abide by INEC’s guidelines as well as its own code of conduct contained in the party’s Orange Book.

Mark had previously warned against using state institutions to manipulate the 2027 elections, insisting that the credibility of the electoral process must be protected.

Speaking during the visit, Ariwoola urged the ADC leadership to ensure that its candidates, officials and supporters obeyed electoral rules and avoided actions capable of triggering political violence.

Ariwoola said the Savannah Centre was engaging political parties and other stakeholders as part of efforts to promote peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in 2027.

He also urged the ADC to encourage its members to conduct issue-based campaigns and respect the rules governing the elections.

The governing council, known as the “Council of the Wise”, was reconstituted in June to engage political actors and institutions ahead of the 2027 elections.
