Several supporters of the Ivory Coast national football team have been unable to secure visas to travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, raising concerns among fan groups ahead of the tournament.

The development was disclosed by the president of an Ivorian supporters’ association, who said a number of fans had their visa applications rejected despite plans to travel and support the Elephants at the global football showpiece.

According to him, the visa denials have left many supporters disappointed, as they had hoped to be part of the historic tournament being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He expressed concern that the restrictions could prevent loyal fans from attending matches and creating the atmosphere that has traditionally accompanied African teams at major international competitions.

The supporters’ leader noted that efforts were made to comply with the required travel procedures, but many applicants were still unsuccessful in obtaining entry permits.

He urged authorities to reconsider the situation to allow genuine football fans to attend the event.

“The supporters have cancelled the trip because the US government does not want to see supporters from certain countries, including Ivory Coast, on its soil. The United States has been clear with us, saying they do not want to see our supporters,” said Kouadio.

“This situation hurts us deeply because it prevents us from fulfilling our sacred duty, which is to support our team.”

The ban comes amid heightened scrutiny of visa policies ahead of the World Cup, with questions being raised about access for supporters from several countries.
