Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been officially ruled out of Nigeria’s critical matches against Lesotho and Benin in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for October.

Dele-Bashiru sustained a thigh injury just 14 minutes into the Derby della Capitale on Sunday, prompting immediate medical attention.

MRI scans conducted on Wednesday confirmed a grade one strain in his right thigh.

As a result, he will be unavailable until after the October international break and will also miss Lazio’s game against Atalanta on October 19. This means Dele-Bashiru will be sidelined for approximately a month.

Currently, Nigeria stands third in Group C with 11 points and will head to South Africa for their last away qualifying match against Lesotho in Bloemfontein on October 6, before returning to Uyo to take on the Benin Republic three days later.
