Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ekiti State have cautioned against any secret move to upturn the results of the recently concluded governorship primary election in the state.

The leaders said that such clandestine move will not see the light of the day as the party will continue to defend its internal democracy.

Dr Wole Oluyede emerged the candidate of the party in the Saturday, November 8,
governorship primary election after he defeated the other contestants in the poll. He will be the flag bearer of the party in the June 20, 2026 governorship election in the state.

Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat, on Monday, in Ado Ekiti, capital of the state, the party leaders led by a former Chairman of Ado Local Government, Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, maintained that the party is satisfied with the process of the primary election that produced Oluyede, and will resist any plot to scuttle the decision of the people.

” This morning some unfounded news started spreading that some people have began to embark on illegal activities aiming to overturn the results of the guber primary election held on saturday.

“We, the Ekiti PDP is using this medium to state that we stand against any form of outside influence from few sold out persons to disrupt or change the peoples’ will.”

While dismissing allegations in some quarters that the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde and the former National Deputy Chairman, Southwest of the party, Hon. Eddy Olafeso, were responsible for the alleged attempt to upturn the results of the primary election, Ogunsakin noted that those mentioning these names are purveyors of fake news because Governor Makinde is a well respected leader and will not be involved in any mischief making or support mischief makers.

“Governor Seyi Makinde is our leader likewise Hon. Eddy Olafeso and all other notable leaders are well respected but we will not allow anybody to use their names because we are sure Governor Seyi Makinde and Eddy Olafeso cannot stoop so low to say they want to thwart the collective progress of the party.

“We in the Ekiti PDP believe.that those taking this unholy step are working to sell the party to the APC by trying to field a very weak candidate in the 2026 governorship elections and let it be on record that it was Governor Seyi Makinde that recommended Senator Abdul Ningi and Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo who oversaw the ad hoc delegates election and primary election respectively.

” It is therefore unacceptable to use the name of Seyi Makinde to want to cause any conflict. We in Ekiti say no to any external persons trying to mortgage the party for their selfish interest.”

Continuing, the PDP chieftain said while efforts are already ongoing to speak with aggrieved contestant and their supporters, he appealed to external individuals to leave the party alone to resolve its own issues.

” We have rebuilt this party and we have achieved this milestone and because they are jittery knowing full well that we have a formidable candidate in Dr Wole Oluyede and this time we will not allow them to sell the party and by the grace of God the enemies of the PDP will be defeated.”

Also speaking, Hon. Segun Adekola, a former member of the House of Representatives declared that the PDP has elected its candidate in a free and fair internal election and that only enemies of the party will want to scuttle such open process.

A former State Chairman of the party, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, in his remarks, called on the National leaders of the party to resist any attempt by those he described as saboteurs who want to hijack the party, noting that the Ekiti PDP is on the right track to reclaim the governorship seat in the state.

Ogundipe explained that Governor Seyi Makinde is aware of the peoples’ resolve and will not seek to destroy the good structure that the PDP has suffered to rebuild in Ekiti.

Rt. Hon. Kolawole Oluwawole, a former Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly warned that the party is not for sale and while reconciliatory efforts will be pursued, he maintained that the party is ready to take over from the ruling All Progressives Congress through the candidacy of Oluyede in next year’s poll.

“We are here today to announce to the whole world that we will not compromise nor allow any selfish personality to throw destructive and misleading tantrums around and any attempt to do other than the interest of the party will be vehemently resisted.”

On his part, a former Chairman of Moba Local Government, Hon. Niyi Adebayo, called on all PDP leaders to remain steadfast in their commitment and resolve to continue to unite the party.

He also dismissed insinuations that Governor Seyi Makinde and Eddy Olafeso were behind the alleged attempt to upturn the outcome of the primary election, noting that enemies of the PDP might be using the names of the leaders to perpetrate falsehood.

” Governor Seyi Makinde and Eddy Olafeso are aware of the whole process and they sure know that the will of the people have prevailed and nothing will discourage us not internal or external detractors.”

He called on PDP members to continue to work in unity declaring that the party is optimistic of victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
