With three days to the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the first batch of Team Nigeria athletes and officials will depart their pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen for host city Glasgow on Tuesday, July 21.

According to the National Sports Commission (NSC), a second batch will move into the Games Village on Friday, July 24, joining teammates already in Glasgow for the opening days of competition.

The phased movement comes after weeks of intensive training and acclimatisation in Aberdeen, where Nigerian athletes have been preparing for the multi-sport event.

The NSC said it has continued to provide technical, medical and welfare support to ensure the athletes arrive in Glasgow in peak condition and fully prepared to compete.

Team Nigeria will compete across several sports, with the country’s medal hopes boosted by recent strong performances at continental and international championships.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will hold from July 23 to August 2 and will feature about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations competing for 215 gold medals in 11 sports.

Scotland is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time, having previously staged the event in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986, and in Glasgow in 2014.

The NSC expressed confidence that Team Nigeria has prepared diligently and will represent the country strongly throughout the Games.
