Paris airspace will be closed within a radius of 150 kilometers around the French capital during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, French civil aviation authorities have said.
During the ceremony, on July 26, “a strict temporary interdiction zone, with a radius of 150 kilometers and no altitude limit, will be imposed around Paris between 19:00 (local time) and midnight,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told EFE.
Only emergency service flights and those benefiting from an exceptional authorization from the Ministry of Defense will be able to fly, but, apart from that, “no flight will be allowed in the airspace during the aforementioned schedule,” the agency insisted.
Airlines and private flight companies “will be invited to delay their activity or to contour this zone during the implementation period,” the DGCA added.
Authorities added that, to ensure compliance with the restrictions, the two major Parisian airports, Charles de Gaulle and Orly, would be subject to regulations as of 5 p.m. on July 26. The Ministry of Defense will be in charge of enforcing the limitations “through specific intervals.
