Kebbi BSC has retained the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) after the conclusion of the 2024 Super 4 at the Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna.
The team won its third league title despite a 3-2 loss on penalties to 2022 league winners, Kada BSC on penalties.
The team secured six points ahead of Anambra BSW which garnered four points, Kebbi United BSC three points, and Kada BSC, the host team got 1 point.
In the final match, the host team had a two-goal lead in the first period through Tanko Emmanuel and Sani Hassan before Kebbi Fishers responded with three goals to level the scoreline from Hassan Abdullahi, Ekene Obi and Hamza Manga.
Victor Tale’s penalty leveled the scoreline in the second period but Emmanuel Ohwoferia restored the Birnin Kebbi side’s lead.
James Mamman’s equaliser in the third period took the game into extra time before Kada Stars secured a 3-2 win from spot kicks.
Earlier, Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors defeated Kebbi United BSC 3-1 on penalties after regulation time ended in a 3-3 draw.
Ibrahim Malami, Jibrin Yahaya, and Umar Aliyu scored for Kebbi United while Olowodalu David, Ekwo Stanley, and Clement Ekujumi converted goals for Anambra BSW.
Overall, Kebbi BSC became the first team to retain the league title and extended their title haul to three out of the four editions of the league while Kada BSC won the title in 2022.
Samaila Bashar’s side won the maiden edition in 2021, and reclaimed the title in 2023 after losing it on home soil to Kada BSC in 2022.
The team topped the log with six points ahead of Anambra BSW (4 points), Kebbi United BSC (3 points), and Kada BSC (1 point).
Kebbi United BSC’s Sadiq Umar who scored 17 goals emerged as the league’s top goal scorer ahead of consecutive top goal scorer, Dozie Frank of Kada BSC who scored 15 goals.
The host team, Kada BSC won the Fair Play award as Kebbi United BSC’s Umar emerged as the winner of the Rising Stars award.
Anambra BSW goalie, Basorun Festus won the best goalkeeper while Kebbi BSC’s Hassan Abdullahi got the Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize.
The winner of the league, Kebbi BSC got a sum of N600, 000 while second-placed Anambra BSW were rewarded with N400, 000.
The third-placed side, Kebbi United BSC will get N300, 000 while Kada BSC which finished fourth will be awarded N200, 000 cash prizes for their efforts.
