The Benue State House of Assembly has passed for second reading, the 2024 Budget Appropriation bill of N225.72 billion.

The budget estimate which was presented by Governor Hyacinth Alia last Friday to the state assembly enjoyed second reading after a debate led by the majority leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer.

Tiseer in his debate said the 2024 budget estimate places high importance on capital projects as it promises to address infrastructure and other developmental needs of the state.

According to the Majority leader, the huge salary and pension arrears inherited from the outgone administration will also be handled from the 2024 budget estimate.

Tiseer called on lawmakers to consider the merit of the budget estimate and give it accelerated hearing.

Seconding the motion, minority leader, Michael Audu, supported the call for speedy passage of the budget saying pending critical issues will be tackled when the budget is approved.

Alao speaking, Hon. Anthony Agom, representing Okpokwu State Constituency, said the 2024 budget estimate was legendary as it was the first time in the state that the capital expenditure of N115.2 billion will be higher than the recurrent expenditure which stands at N110.5 billion.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Aondona Dajoh in his ruling, referred the 2024 budget estimate to the house committee on Appropriation for further legislative scrutiny.

The House during the sitting, lifted the three months suspension earlier placed on member representing Konshisha state constituency, Cephas Dyako and his Makurdi South counterpart, Douglas Akya.

The suspension was lifted following a motion by member representing Tarka State Constituency, Hon. Manger Manger who said the two lawmakers have shown deep remorse for their action and appealed for their recall.

His motion was seconded by member representing Gwer West State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Gyila.
