All Progressives Congress ( APC ) senatorial candidate in Anambra State, Kodilichukwu Okelekwe has said the people of the South East must vote candidates that will best protect their interest in the 2023 general elections.

Okelekwe, who is aspiring to represent Anambra Central Senatorial zone, in an interview, charged Ndigbo to assess every candidate based on their antecedents and individual capacity and not on political party affiliation.

He noted that Ndigbo must approach the 2023 general elections strategically, stating that next year’s poll offers the people an opportunity to reposition themselves in the politics of the country.

On the outcome of his party’s presidential primaries, Okelekwe noted that he had hoped a candidate from the South East would emerge. In his words, “To be honest with you, I would have loved a person from South-East to emerge as APC presidential candidate. I was not a delegate. I can’t really say what happened. I am as surprised as you are but I wouldn’t want us to really dwell on that now but rather on how south-east can key in strategically in way that guarantees respect, dignity and our overall well-being as Ndigbo”

According to him, the 2023 general elections offer the people of Anambra Central, the South East and the entire country an opportunity to vote for candidates, with proven records of service to the people, irrespective of political affiliation.

The senatorial hopeful stated that as an individual he has remained committed to the progress and development of his community and humanity at large. Consequently, he promised that if
voted into the National Assembly, he would champion legislation that will enhance quality education, youth empowerment, and quality healthcare amongst others, as well as be a strong voice for Anambra central and Ndigbo at large.

Okelekwe, while responding to a question on the rising profile of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, said it is not in doubt that the latter has given momentum to his political party.

He said “Peter Obi is a very good man, a great man, endowed with all the qualities that make for great leadership in public office. I believe that Peter Obi has given momentum to Labour Party.”

The senatorial candidate also expressed hopes that the APC will be able to resolve all issues within its fold before the 2023 polls.
