Few days to the general election, a nongovernmental organization, Speak Out Africa Initiative (SOAI) has launched the 1st ever Citizen-Led Election Radar Room, to track and monitor the activities.
The Executive Director Kenneth Eze, while speaking at the ceremony said over 1,405 election radar officers, who are indigenous voters would be deployed across the 36 states including the federal capital territory Abuja.
“As part of our mandate to ensuring the credibility and sanctity of the 2023 general elections, the Speak Out Africa Initiative (SOAI) has set up the 1st ever Citizen-Led Election Radar Room, to track, observe, analyze and report real-time incidences with accuracy, and prescribe solutions to the issues that will arise regarding the credibility and fairness of the elections.
The aim of the Radar Room is to offer an independent and unbiased analysis of the process as well as outcome, and present it to Nigerians as it is; with a view to help the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) improve in its future elections thus, deepening our democracy.
We are deploying about 1,405 election radar officers across the 36 states and the federal capital territory Abuja who are indigenous voter of the assigned polling units for direct first-hand report from accreditation, voting and declaration of results as well as assessment of election stakeholders. on the other hand, we will be giving the overall pre evaluation and assessment of electoral umpire and mood of the nation.”
He commented the effort of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the preparation of the elections but lamented on the lack of proper sensitization on polling units’ transfer.
