Abia State chapter of Labour Party (LP) has applauded the Department for State Service (DSS), for arresting one Tony Otuonye, the General Manager of the Abia State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA) following his alleged threat on Abia electorates over Saturday’s Governorship election.

This is even as traders at Ngwa Road (Ahia Ohuru) Market have joined in commending the security agency for the feat.

Otuonye in a video that went viral, had threatened to kill and sacrifice any Abian who will not work for his preferred candidate, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okey Ahiwe to win the governorship election.

It was on the basis of the threat, operatives of the DSS in Abia state, arrested Otuonye.

Commending the DSS over the arrest of the ABSAA GM, LP, through Alex Otti’s campaign Council Director General, Iheanacho Obioma stated that the arrest of Otuonye was timely and would ”help avert destabilization of the state and destruction of lives and properties”, during and after the election.

The campaign council alleged that Otuonye have been using his office to intimidate opposition parties by denying them approval for installation of campaign billboards.

Ogah said the DSS action has restored the confidence of voters who he said will no longer be afraid to troop out on Saturday to vote candidates of their choice.

Meanwhile, traders at the Ngwa Road (Ahia Ohuru) Market, under the umbrella of Men of Goodwill has equally given kudos to the DSS for taken prompt action against the ABSAA GM.

The traders said the aim of Otuonye’s threat was to scare potential voters away and prevent them from voting on Saturday.

Coordinator of the traders, Jack Uhuoma said the gimmick was dead on arrival as they have vowed to come out en masse and vote for Otti and other candidates of the Labour Party who he said they had earlier endorsed.

“No amount of threat will make us not to come out on Saturday to vote and we are going to vote the candidate of our choice. If they like, let them kill all of us, it will not change anything”, he said.
