Nigeria’s U-17 female volleyball team beat its Cameroonian counterparts 3-1 in the second match of the 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball Championship, at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The Nigerian girls lost the first set by 19- 25. However, they fought back to win the remaining three sets. They won the second set 25-20, the third set 25-13 and the fourth set 25-22.
Cameroon girls fought back but they could not utilise their chances. Coach of Nigeria’s team, Sunday Akapson, said they couldn’t jubilate yet because they still have matches to play.
“Congratulations to the girls for the work well done, this is just a starting point for us,” Akapson said after the match.
“We are meeting them again on Wednesday in the semi final and we want to assure you that the girls will replicate this victory.”
Nigeria lost the opening game to Egypt 3-0, while Cameroon also lost its first game to Egypt 3-2.
Nigeria, Egypt and Cameroon are the only countries participating in the tournament after two countries pulled out due to logistics problems. Nigeria will take on Cameroon in the semi final today.
The 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball, which started on Saturday, is expected to end on December 8.
