English Championship side Leicester City have claimed that they were yet to get a communication from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if they could delay the arrival date of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi to Super Eagles pre-AFCON 2023 camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

With the Super Eagles camp gearing up to welcome its early arrival as from today, the Foxes are set to miss the services of Iheanacho and Ndidi for potentially five weeks when the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on January 13.

As of last Friday night, Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca did not know if his African players would be available to face Huddersfield as they were waiting on answers from the national associations as to when players had to fly out.

Typically, AFCON bound players are available for New Year’s Day matches, but then join up with their nations.

“We are still waiting for the federations’ answers,” Maresca said.

“We’ll see if we can have some of them available for the next game or not. We are waiting.”

Meanwhile, Iheanacho may not be able to play anyway with the striker injured. He was absent from the squad that defeated Cardiff and City are awaiting the results of further assessments on him, with Maresca not yet confirming he will be fit to play for Nigeria at the continent’s bi-annual biggest soccer fiesta.
