The Former Deputy Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma, has pleaded with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to adopt the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
Barr. Jonathan who stated this in a letter he wrote to the National Working Committee of the party, through its National Chairman, Sen. Iyorcha Ayu, yesterday, noted that if the PDP and Nigerians give Gov. Ugwuanyi the opportunity to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, he will change Nigeria’s story for good.
The Governor whose second term in office would come to an end in 2023, is the leader of the PDP in the southeast.
The later, captioned, “Special appeal for the kind consideration of Gov ugwuanyi as consensus presidential candidate of PDP in the next national convention of our party” described Ugwuanyi as ‘Messiah’ and obvious remedy to the staggering challenges confronting our dear nation.”
The latter reads, “I am writing this letter to seek your kind consideration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, the executive Governor of Enugi State as the sole and consensus presidential candidate of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the next national convention of our party, later this month.
“Your Excellencies, the choice of Gov. Ugwuanyi for this all-tasking responsibility became necessary following the agitation for Igbo presidency across the federation and the need to arrest the heartbreaking security situation in the southeast, orchestrated by unknown Gunmen.
“Your excellencies, it is no longer new to state that for many years and still counting that the country has been going through trying and tough times, both economically and socially, with bandits and Boko Haram maiming, killing, pilfering and destroying human lives at will.
“The above ugly trends in the country would only require a man or rather, a non tribalistic Nigerian whose peaceful disposition and passionality command tranquility and Harmony. And that individual is the unassuming and very quiet but brave as well courageous leader, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, executive governor of Enugu State.
The Ex-Deputy Speaker noted that the governor’s recent conferment of honorary award on peace by a national organization is a testament to his true nature of peace.
“And to further acknowledge the governor’s disposition on Peace, your Excellencies, the Governor was recently given ‘Most Peaceful Governor in Nigeria’ award.
“Having said that and Without trying to bore you with litany of achievements of the governor in different spheres of life, let me kindly crave your understanding to consider His Excellency as your sole and consensus presidential candidate as the benefits cannot be overemphasized.
“He is the long awaited Messiah and obvious remedy to the staggering challenges confronting our dear nation. Please do give this letter urgent consideration as well as attention sir”, he wrote in the letter.
