Members of Ikeja Golf Club and their families are set for a thrilling time as the 2023 championship tees off on November 20, 2023 in Lagos.
The competition, one of the biggest to be witnessed by the club, will also celebrate the 55 years existence of the club and will feature over 200 golfers including non-members.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the championships, Captain of the Ikeja Golf Club, Sina Akinyemi, said the event is a week-long activity from November 20, climaxing in the championships proper, which starts on Friday November 24 and ends on Sunday November 26, 2023.
Akinyemi also announced that this edition of the championship would witness the phased commissioning of the Integrated Golf Range Project, a legacy project started by the incumbent committee.
He explained that the Integrated Golf Range Project is a state-of-the-art facility that will improve golfing experience for members of the Ikeja Golf Club.
“This project is set to place Ikeja Golf Club on the map of the golf world,” he added.
Echoing his captain, the club’s Competitions Secretary, Jenkins Alumona, explained that different trophies would add more spice, fun and some incentive to make the games more interesting.
“Our club is 55 years old and this will be the biggest event to be witnessed by the club. We have our staff and caddies play (on Monday) and then on Tuesday, our veterans, we will also have our ladies come play too.
“The championship proper starts on Friday for handicap 19 and above, Saturday handicap 01-18 will play and those who qualify from Friday and Saturday will battle for honors on Sunday where the club champion for the year will be crowned.
“We are looking forward to a very great time on and off the course, we expect our members to turn up in large numbers and to have sharpened their skills,” Alomuna said.
