A two-storey building collapsed at Adabor Junction, Ashi, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday night.
The incident is coming barely four weeks after a five-storey building hotel collapsed in Bodija GRA. Witnesses said the two-storey building which collapsed at about midnight on Sunday, housed a pharmacy, supermarket and church.
The residents, however, said no life was lost as the security guard in the building, who was the only one on the ground when the incident occurred was said to have been rescued and healthy.
“We were scared when we suddenly heard a loud shaking noise at about midnight as we thought that armed robbers had invaded our area. We rushed out and on getting to the scene, we were shocked to see the collapsed building,” one of the residents said.
Another resident said revealed that the site of the building was formally used as a cemetery before it was sold to the developer.
“When the land was sold, the corpses were exhumed before the building was erected.
the building was built during former governor Akala’s administration.
“There were cracks on the building before it eventually collapsed. Millions of goods and property were trapped in the rubbles. We are making efforts to stop hoodlums from having access to the scene, so that they won’t loot people’s property. We have called the police and operatives of NEMA for rescue operations. The good thing is that no life was lost and nobody was injured,” he said.
