Two female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, (JOSTUM), formerly University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM), has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, the Benue state Police Command have said.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Makurdi said the students were kidnapped on Saturday night.
Anene said the incident took place at about 11pm along North Bank/University of agriculture Road.
Anene who said the incident took place outside the university campus explained that the gunmen blocked the road, attacked and took the victims before the security operatives could arrive at the scene.
The Police spokesperson said both the families of the students and the school authorities have notified the Command and investigation into the matter was ongoing.
Efforts to get the school authorities failed as the deputy Public Relations Officer, Mrs Iwodi said she needs to get permission to speak to the press.
