2 die in fatal road crash in Anambra

Two unidentified persons have died in a fatal road crash at Ukpo, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State.
The deceased, a male and a female passengers met their untimely death in front of the Zone 13 Police Headquarters along Enugu-Onitsha expressway by 10am on Sunday, 15th September, 2024.
Though the cause of the accident was not ascertained as at press time, preliminary information showed that the deceased, traveling in a white Toyota Camry car with Registration No: UWN 531 AS had a head-on collision with a Mack truck.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the cause of the accident was mainly overspending, adding that the driver of the ill fated car was on a high speed not considering that it was only one lane of the expressway that is being used.
“He was on top speed and he overtook dangerously without knowing that a Mack truck was coming and they had a very bad head-on collision and the two occupants of the car died on the spot as their bodies were badly wounded.
Though the identities of the accidents victims were not known, information at the scene suggest they may be students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam who probably came to Awka for weekend expedition.
It took intervention of passersby and some policemen attached to Zone 13, Ukpo to use axe to retrieve the bodies of the young man and his passenger from the wreckage of the car.
