18th Prince GAS Cup kicks off Aug.14

Sixteen teams will compete for glory in the 18th edition of the Prince GAS Cup, a free-age grassroots football tournament, that is slated for kick off on August 14 in Lagos.

Daily Sun reports that the Prince GAS Cup has become a key grassroots platform for discovering young talents over its 18-year run.

In an exclusive chat, the organiser, Prince Sulaimon Gbadamosi, popularly known as Prince GAS, said the tournament would be played across three venues in Lagos.

He disclosed that the kick-off will coincide with the birthday of his wife.

Gbadamosi said, “We are ready for another exciting edition.

“16 teams will participate in the 18th Prince GAS Cup, Free Age grassroots football tournament that will commence on August 14.”

Participating teams
The 16 teams listed for this year’s tournament are: Kadima FC, Big Dan FC, White Soccer ACD, Alpha FC, Sunshine FC, Sharp Strikers FC, Super Accurate FC, Balo FC, Unity FC, Sterling City FC, Kings FC, Casamigos FC, Sansan Bois FC, Accurate FC, Wolves FC, Sammy FC, Heart of Lions FC, and IG FC.

Venues
Matches will be played at three venues: Proposed Palace Playing Ground, Sansan Field Igando; Egan Grammar School; and Kasali Kudus Sports Center, Abaranje Okeorube.

Draws
The official draw for the 18th edition will hold on Friday, July 31, at White Stone Hotel, Taiwo Ibrahim Street, Igando, Lagos State, by 11 a.m.
Gbadamosi said all team representatives must be present on the draws day.

Legacy
Gbadamosi noted that the competition has over the years produced professional players including former Nigeria international Ramon Azeez, Yusuf Otubanjo, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, John Okoye, and Ajibola.

Sponsorship and prizes
On sponsorship, Gbadamosi said, “Apart from the Mr Frut Drink that is supporting, we are still looking for more sponsors to make this year edition more glamorous.”

He added that winners would go home with cash prizes, giant trophies, and medals, while semi-finalists will receive sets of jerseys.

Meanwhile, the under-15 category of the Prince Gas Cup which is in quarterfinal stage saw Stowe FC Surulere clinch a 2-1 victory over SA Dynamous FA Ejigbo and Young Stars FC Igando beat Future Stars 99 FC Igando 1-0.

The two remaining quarterfinal games hold Wednesday, June 29 between
Super Accurate FC Ikotun and Rising Stars FC Matogun, while Fortune FC Oshodi clash with Smart Strikers FC Oke Aro
